So just start creating a report query, type in your first SQL statement, click next, click add query, add another one, add as many as needed, then download the XML structure or schema, and use that to design your RTF. And based on your log entry above, I was assuming you were using APEX 3.1. How can I create a Report Query using the two different queries at the same time?No need for a union, with APEX 3.1 we added the ability to add multiple separate independent SQL source statements to a report query. When I changed that and aimed it at one of the queries it worked fine. However I want it to pick up two completely different datasets. My URL via the button was aiming at the template/layout. So I created two report queries one for select * from emp and one for select * from dept to get the XML - I then loaded them into BI Publisher through word and did the template.

I then loaded this via Word and created a RTF file using the xml file as the datasource. I've tested each one via setting the bind variable bit and have downloaded an xml file with all the data from the 6 queries. I've created a Report Query with 6 different queries in it.

The pdf is created but no data has been picked up.I'm obviously doing something wrong here but I can't for the life of me see what. Then I created a button with a branch on submit with the URL as per the report query ie: f?p=&APP_ID.:0:&SESSION.:PRINT_REPORT=EventId where EventId is the name of the report query. Went back into my application and created a report layout based on the rtf file I'd just created and linked it to the report query.

I get the same bogus error message you mention. If I set the OUTPUT Format to WORD or EXCEL, I get a blank document with no error message. If I set the Report Attributes page to export the data I will get all my data in CVS output.Any assistance on how to get the Print Attributes work with PDF output would be greatly appreciated. It sounds like your issue is similar but different from mine.Similar in that your getting the same error message raised by adobe because Oracle code may not be handling your error. I can set up the PRINT attributes using PDF Output Format and will get the dialog box "Opening myfile.PDF '. The message is confusing to the users and does not communicate the issue. The bogus error message reads: "Adobe Reader could not open 'myreport.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (form example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).Has anyone else encounter this issue? How did you work around it?Todd I have had the same issue. Rather then showing an error or information message of "no data found" a generic message is shown to the users.

I would not have the option of even running the report to get a no-data-found error. Why then should I not use standard reporting instead of advanced reporting? I don't want to execute the query twice. Because the query is initially run when the page is rendered it would hid the "print" option. The second time the query is executed is to produce the report output (pdf, word, excel). First time the query is run is for the page rendering the tabular region. Using standard reporting is running the same query twice. It would not be an issue because when a standard report is created it is associated to a tabular report region of a page.

Todd,I'm not sure I understand the problem properly, but perhaps you could provide some more details and then we can figure this out. Raising the Adobe error instead of a no-data-found error would totally confuse the users. Paid money for BIP.The issue we share is a confusing message shown to users that means nothing to them.Anyone got a work around? Managers at my company will be running these BIP reports. Advanced reports can be configured for my needs more then standard reporting.

Or you can use report queries, associated them with report layouts and then make them accessible through buttons, navigation links, etc. When using report regions, and no data was found, you won't get the download link, so there should be no problem with downloading empty documents.
